Moving is rarely hard because of the carrying itself. It is hard when there is no plan: boxes get packed at the last minute, nobody knows whether the sofa will fit through the door, and the van is waiting outside the building. The good news is that most of the stress can be avoided with a little preparation.
4 weeks before the move
- Choose a date and book early. The end and the start of the month are the busiest - if you are flexible, choose a date in the middle.
- Declutter. Every item you do not move is time and money saved. Old furniture and unwanted items can be carried out and hauled away before the big day.
- Do an online viewing. A short video call on Viber is enough to get a realistic idea of the volume and the price, without anyone coming to your home.
1-2 weeks before
- Start by packing the things you rarely use - books, seasonal clothes, decorations.
- Label every box with the room and a short list of contents. This saves a lot of time when unloading.
- Check the access at both addresses: floor, lift, width of the entrance and stairwell, parking space for the van.
- Decide which furniture needs taking apart. Wardrobes, beds and wall units often do not fit through whole - assembly and disassembly can be part of the service.
1 day before
- Defrost and dry the fridge and freezer.
- Put documents, keys, medicines and chargers in one separate bag that you carry yourself.
- Take photos of how the TV and computer cables are connected - putting them back together is much easier.
On moving day
Be at the address when the team arrives and show what is fragile and what stays. Check the last room, the cupboards and the basement before the van leaves. At the new address, direct the boxes straight to the right room - that is where the labels pay off.
