Old furniture usually gets left “for later” - until a renovation, a move or simply running out of space. Then it turns out that a wardrobe or a sofa does not just disappear easily.
First: what is still usable?
- Furniture in good condition can be given away - to friends, in giveaway groups or to charities.
- Working appliances often find a new owner through an ad.
- Broken, mouldy or very old furniture - for these, removal is the only option.
Do not leave it next to the bins
Bulky waste does not belong in the ordinary household bins. Left next to them, it gets in the way of the neighbours and the rubbish collection, and the municipality may impose a fine.
How to carry it out without damage
- Take large furniture apart - wardrobes and wall units rarely fit down the stairwell in one piece.
- Remove doors and glass separately and wrap them so they do not break on the way.
- Protect the walls and banisters in the shared areas - a blanket or cardboard does the job.
- Do not carry heavy things down the stairs on your own - it is the most common cause of injuries.
